I'm sure they would. You'll need a disc cutter to get them out because I gashed, Oops, I mean welded them in.

New two wheeled project!
The other day i accidently found a project
I was at a local bike shop looking for parts to repair a friends scooter when i saw an old bike in corner that the shop owner had restored , i told him i was on the look out for something similar to build a small Cafe racer, he then showed me an old bike he'd had in the back of the workshop for years and asked if it was the sort of thing i was looking for.
The next day it was in the back of the Caddy (as if i need another project)!
Anyway, here it is.
It's an old Honda ss50 and the plan is to turn it into something like this
The first job was strip off the heavy seat, rack, pedals, back mudguard etc and make a new seat base for a single seat unit.
It didn't come with an engine and my first plan was to fit a modern water cooled 50cc engine but i don't want to spend too much money on it so i looked for something that would fit straight in.The (oh no, i'm going to say it!) ORIGINAL engine was similar to the Honda step thru engine which are now being remade by the chinese for a multitude of bikes including Quads an Pitbikes. I found a brand new 125cc engine on ebay £75.

Re: Tills Rides
Cheers guys .
I hope to get it running this month and on the road by the end of Feb but it may have to go on hold as the Caddy engine let go last night knocking two big holes in the block. I now need to get the square on the road sharpish and then find a cheap daily as Rachels car is using water too !
Scott is welcome to have a go Karen.

Cheers Karen but my olds have just gone on their holibobs so i have my old mans car for two weeks
I told him i only needed it friday to view a car but i'll use up all his diesel while i'm getting the square sorted. We can nurse Rachels car along for a few weeks while we get some cash together.

Re: Tills Rides
Quick up date on the Cafe racer project.
It started today
The original wiring is a bit of a mess and trying to wire a new engine into the original loom was going to be a nightmare so I ordered a complete new engine loom including coil, rectifier and ignition box(cdi).
This plugged straight into the engine and I had a spark so I couldn't resist filling the carb with fuel and she fired up after a few kicks. My mate is coming around on Sunday to wire in the lights and indicators etc so it will hopefully soon be ready for a test ride.

Re: Tills Rides
It's coming along quite nicely. I stuck all the bits that I've stripped off it on eBay and got £50 them!! That paid for the loom.
It sounds pretty cool for a small bike, can't wait to make the exhaust for it.

Re: Tills Rides
I done a bit more to bike this eve. It originally had pedals which 50cc bikes had to have back in the seventies to be classed as 'mopeds' so 16year olds could ride them. I stripped them off because they look shit so new footpegs had to be fitted.
My first idea was to make them from scatch but a friend had a box of old rear foot peg frames he'd taken off various bikes so i decided to try and use a pair of those.
I started making an exhaust too. This is only temporary so i can run it without pissing off my neighbours.

Cheers Dude. Pop over one eve.
My mate came around last night to sort out the wiring, it was a bit of a headache but he managed to wire the new engine into the old loom. He checked to see if it was charging and it kicks out 16v!
With that sort of power i could probably sell some back to the national grid.
