Speaker Problems
Does anyone know anywhere/ anyone good at wiring that's pretty local?
My new car had crackly distorted door speakers so I just assumed it was general old age and wear, but the problems got worse and now the speakers keep cutting out.
I changed the speakers for new ones and that's solved the distortion but the speakers keep cutting out.
I assumed it would be a loose connection somewhere and I've checked the wiring and I couldn't see any visible loose wires. It seemed to get worse after I fitted my sub so I thought it may have been that, so I've tried disconnecting the sub, checking the earth, changing the earth and I've also tried different head units to see if its that but still nothing.
Does anyone know what it could be?
Or know of anyone/anywhere who specialises in stereo wiring who could take a look?
It does look like the previous owner has hacked the wiring at the back as I noticed a couple of Iso block connectors that have been fitted but I don't know what they're for or the what the wires are going too.
Cheers

Re: Speaker Problems
My old xr2 (yeah boi!) started doing this after I did the youth thing and put 5oow watt speakers in the doors and a 1000w amp and sub, my brother also had the same prob when he put them in his car, the problem ended up being the power to the head unit. As soon as it was on for a while it would cut out for a while until the battery had more charge then would come back on.
Dont know how big your speakers are but you could also need big meaty wires for the speakers also.
Mine was ran straight to the battery with the biggest wires I could find, got a new battery in the end too which solved everything.
Arrrrrh those were the boy racer days!

Re: Speaker Problems
It's more than likely an issue with the strain that you're putting on the battery like Jamie said.
A weak battery will struggle to power the sub, speakers etc. I had to run a capacitor to regulate the voltage being used by my amplifier so that my headlights would stop dimming when the sub was on . You could try switching on all of your electrics and see if the speakers cut out more regularly.
I would definitely replace the dodgy speaker wiring first, you'll lose sound quality and power with those sh**ty connection blocks. Speaker wire is pretty cheap anyway and at least you'll know it's definitely not shorting out somewhere.

Yes Jamie!I can see it now you Rolling in the Xr2 like a DON with your music blaring, all the honeys stopping and drooling in the street as you go by... That's what they did when I had my first car (my mums saxo)... Honest.
Me and my mate had another look today, after reading what you said Jamie I was certain it was the battery, but my mate thought we should have another look just before I buy a new battery.
We decided to rip out all of the guys dodgy wiring and followed the worst bit of wiring back to the rear door cards and found an empty void where speakers should have been with the wires just rattling round with no tape over the cut ends.
Needless to say after we ripped all the wire out and put the door cards and carpet back it's as good as new and the speakers work fine now.
So the wires must have shorting out on the inside of the door
Next pay day ill just have to buy some speakers for the back
Cheers for the help guys!
Glad I didn't have to pay £60 odd for someone to tell that!
