MOT failure bug :(
As some of you may know the beetle has a few problems at the moment including a massive hole on front beam.
Can any one lend some help and tell me how to remove front beam ready for ade to weld. Is it a 2 person job? How hard is it ECT.
Its also got carb problems again since I changed one over. It splitters when I put foot on accelerator.
Also need some help on how to drop the back 1 spline.
Thanks guys hope to be on the road again soon

Hi Pete
Taking the beam off is not 2 difficult, you need to remove the fuel tank first which hopefully is less than half full.
It can be done on your own but if you've never taken one off before i would advise at least a spare pear of hand as the can be quite heavy.
when do you want to do it, i could give you a hand but i've not got much spare time for the next few weekends.
Carb might need a rebuild, sounds like the accelorator pump diafram might be holed. also a dizzy which doesnt advance properly has similar symptoms.

I'm free Wednesday evening, but won't be back in 'Nam until 6:30.
It'll be easier if you can make a start a day early by spraying Plus Gas or similar on the 4 bolts that hold the centre of the beam to the frame-head. Try and get the nozzle right down into where the threads go in. Also if you can give the balljoint nuts a quick spray too
Have you got trolley-jacks, axle stands, balljoint splitters and a full compliment of sockets/spanners?
Lastly, and most importantly can you text me your address. 07729 101648.

Hi pete
I dont get back from work till around 6.30.
If Russ is going to give you a hand tomorrow evening i could come over as well as there will only be about 1 hr of day light so we will need to get stuck in.
Do you have a lowered beam with adjusters? If so the beam should have been off in the last couple of years so hopefully the bolts will not be to rusted up. Make sure you spray plenty of plus gas on them both between the beam and frame head and more importantly from the rear of the frame head.
Let know if your going to do the job tomorrow evening and PM me your address.
i assume you've got a tolley jack and stands?
